Dragon/Dungeon for November

No updates for the character builder?!

What. in the.. hell?
I am not really surprised, they are in death march country and it has been obvious that WOTC have been making all the known software development mistakes. There is no reason that they would stop now. In fact I think that they are now suffering from mistakes made about a year or more ago.
If htey persist it will get done but I will hazzard no guess as to how long.

I expect they are simply playing it safe by not announcing a date. I'm sure they have a goal date. I don't think they want to put it on the calendar.

I'm also hoping it means the update will also roll out the mysterious new webtool... But not too hard, so I won't be dissapointed. :P

My recollection is that last month someone did that, and the page count has been dropping for the last 4-6 months, and that it is actually less content.

For me, it's not necessarily the page count in and of itself. But I could have sworn that when the 'previews' started that they were not supposed to take the space of regular articles.

And then there are 'articles' that are MORE preview material.

And the actual articles themselves, some of them are quite good. The Kord one recently for example. I'd pay to see more of that.

But without cartons, ads, three adventurers a month in dungeon that aren't just crammed with combat, three adventurers a month in dungeon that vary a little into the higher level, since, you know, it's supposed to be core now, etc...

Well, let's look at it this way. Pathfinder has been kicking ass and taking names and trying out new things and still coming out on time and still doing whole adventure paths and supporting them whole heartedly.

Scales of War has been over for a while now and the Caves of Chaos have focused so much on the lower levels, that i'l lbe honest, I don't even see what they're doing with it nowadays.

Here's the other part of it. Without the DDI updates for Essentials, those dragon articles, etc... that provide new powers/abilities to essential characters? What am I going to do, half on paper and half DDI? Come on man. That's possible but I'm the one or theo ther style.

I'd agree that Pathfinder is providing a better quality experience than DDI, even though I prefer the 4th Ed system. But it's also more than twice as expensive and doesn't involve software. Still, Paizo rocks, that's for sure!

Oh I'm not saying it's cheaper. If the essentials and Dark Sun updates had been done on time, I'd keep quite save for the occassional post on what I'd like to see in Dragon. But without the DDI, the sub isn't worth it.

And I think in terms of comparission, that while Paizo does not have an in-house tool like the DDI, and the Adventure Paths themselves are aimed at the GM's, the fact that there will be an AP, two of them, every year, helps keep GMs at the table even when 4e is touted as being easier to GM.

You can't pour out a game system developed at going to 30th level in the core and then cry no one's playing at those high levels and drop the DMG 3 while providing poor content in the monthly support that's suppoed to be encouraging those game play experiences in the first place.
