The crappy stories are well... crappy, and dont give me enough of the information I want. Even if they coincidentally deal with a topic (say, they encounter a monster I'm wanting to read an ecology on), I might learn one tidbit, but not how their society works, how they think of other races, their life cycle, etc. I dont even consider it fluff.

Well, if the stories aren't crappy, don't you think the authors would be better off (i.e., well-paid) making them full novel format in the first place?

AFAIC, submitting short stories is the best place for up-and-coming fiction writers to polish off their skills and hopefully get noticed, just as much as a game designer (like Ed Greenwood) submitting articles for the magazine.

Maybe, and maybe not. What it indicates is that you're different from the assumed reader that they had in mind when they wrote the survey.

If the "nope, not me" respondents wind up only being a few percent of the respondents, then, yeah, you're an outlier in their reader base. But, if they wind up being a significant minority, then that, alone, should tell Paizo something.

It tells me more about the audience they are gunning for.

Well I decided to try to take the survey again. Figured since it was early morning, the paizo website wouldn't be as slow.

To my surprise, it took me to the page where I left off. And not once did I get booted. So I was able to complete it.

Its a gaming magazine. I could care less if "up and coming" (read, bad) writers get noticed. It'll just encourage them to churn out more garbage. Ironically, while I love fantasy games and fantasy settings, I can count on 2 hands the number of fantasy books I enjoy. Gygax is a complete hack, if I never have to thumb past another of his worthless "offerings" I'll be pleased.

Its a gaming magazine.

It's a magazine for PnP RPG, not one of them base, mindless electronic gaming magazines.

I had to use a different browser. Safari on the Mac wasn't working, so I went to Explorer.

I ended up switching computers and browsers (XP to 98, IE to Netscape 7), was able to finish up the last page on got the thank you page (for anyone else who's been getting booted, this is how you'll know you're done).
