Dragon fight

I believe that the point here is not to pad out the treasure gained for this particular encounter, but rather general ideas of what to do with the carcass of a big dragon once it's slain.
Ah, well for mundane uses of a large beast carcass, you've nailed it pretty well.

I thought he was looking for cool magic stuff they could make. There's a near infinite number of things that could be done with the (innately magical) body parts, so a suggestion on what kind of impact he thinks his campaign could handle is paramount.

I don't see it that way, and I've told them that.
Very cool.

Hmm....

A green dragon breathes out chlorine gas. It's flesh should not be edible, but might be leached for the chlorine to bleach clothing. You might want to consult with your local alchemist. Or the flesh might be buried in the ground for awhile until the chlorine leaches out, and it's fat would be like a stinky rich cheese that's an acquired taste.

...build whole bits of village from a nice big corpse.

Idea for a plot for 1st level adventure.

Big mighty adevntureres battle a dragon over a number of days and finally slay the great brute at the edge of civilisation, near a tiny and sleepy fishing village. Like good adventurers they leave there mess behind in the form of a huge great carcass, as they depart to plunder the dragons distant lair.

Villagers totally pillage the corpse and make all sorts of benefical things for the village.

Months pass and some 'peril' is attracted to the corpse and its up to to the novice party, as memebers of the village, to keep it safe and face the 'peril'

Hmm?

Well in Norse mythology:
Sigurd slew Fafnr and bathed in his blood to gain invulnerability to weapons. He ate the heart and learned the language of the beasts. (echoed in Fin Mac Ciool's eating the salmon of wisdom.)
In Greek mythology Cadmus planted the teeth of a dragon and an army of fully armed warriors sprang forth from the ground. They were so fierce that Cadmus had to start a fight among them so their numbers would be thinnned out. He then led the survivors, 9 of them IIRC, to conquer Thebes and set himself up as King.

IMC recently: dragon skin armour and cloaks to provide resistance to acid (black dragon), potions of acid breath, spear of (black) dragon slaying.

....Yeah, but mythological dragons like those were rather more unique and stuff. If all it took was killing a dragon and bathing in its blood to become invulnerable, I daresay that dragons would be extinct at this point in the gameworld. Unless they used the same practice themselves.......

Because adventurers and such would have been slaying dragon wyrmlings constantly in order to harvest the dragon-blood for personal invulnerability. And at some point the population would die out.

Steak, a nice roast, BBQ Ribs, hamburger with the rest.
A little chlorine is nothing that a purify food and drink won't fix.

And if there's a barbarian in the party, definately eat its heart raw to gain its strength. Symbolically, even if there is no actual game-play effect.

Well the Green's flesh is a bit acidic so it needs to be soaked in milk for a few days before cooking (Alternatively, if you have access to a cleric or druid this can be accomplished with spells too). After that, start with getting a big pot. Fill with water and add the meat. You should let it simmer for a while. Then add potatoes and maybe some beans, tomatoes give a nice flavour to the stew. Use flours to thicken the stew a bit and let is simmer until the meat is well cooked. When it's almost ready add seasonings and some pepper. Mmm. Dragon-stew. Favourite of every dwarf from here to the Southern Mountains. :)

when our party slew a red dragon, we ended up making more money from the carcass than from the treasure. Skinning the beast yielded a full set of banded dragon armour (the armourer provided the armour in exchange for the rest of the hide) Teeth and claws were used as armour spikes.

We built a smokehouse and smoked the meat, drained the blood for use as ink, I think we sold the bones as spell components or alchemical ingredients. basically there was nothing left when we were finished. The poor DM didn't count on us rendering her dragon into it's component parts.

Zombie.

Other ideas...
The teeth and claws should be able to be made into masterwork daggers and shortswords (and maybe have them do +1 acid damage).

Dragon bile could be a potent poison.

The bones of a massive flying creature should probably be hollow and very strong. Maybe they could be used to build the frame of an exceptional ship. (Or skyship if your campaign has something like that).

Armor is always a good thing. If it's as big as a house, having some scales instead be replaced by gems and coins is not out of line, and would make for a very impressive armor. (Circumstance bonus on reaction checks?)

A dragon's eye could be made into a powerful divination wondrous item. Something like a gem of true seeing, but useable only 3 rounds per day.

The skin and bones of the wings could be made into collapsible personal gliders that give the effect of the feather fall spell.

Its stomach (or whatever bladder holds the acid it breaths) could retain the capability to carry harmful substances safely.

Dragon's blood could be a potent potion that bestows the effects of bull's strength, and barkskin (with a sfx of skin turning to scales instead of bark) and resist elements (acid in this case) but also inflicts a dc14 1d6/1d6 con damage poison.

That's all I got.

So, my players recently murderized a green dragon that is the size of the house. Now they are wondering what to do with a large dragon corpse. They want some ideas as to how to carve it, and thus I come to the very knowledgeable and influential EN World gamers forum to help them. They also want you tactics and ideas for fighting dragons as well, as they probably suspect that they will fight more (and they would be correct in assuming so, but I won't tell).

I will be giving them this thread address so they can read it (and if they decide to join EN World, even better!). So please, give us all you know about fighting and caving dragons, and anything else you can add.

Sorry...just a question. What CR was it, and what level was the party? Explain how they killed it?

I don't think killing a dragon should be easy....so, hope at least someone lost a limb.
