Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane (I didn't start collecting DRAGON until issue #90, but read my friends' copies). I remember Arthur Collins wrote some very good articles, but that he passed away in the mid-80s. Do I rememer that correctly?

It just brings into stark comparison how jam-packed those early editions were - full of stuff that many could use - and how narrow and "hit or miss" the current issues of "Dragon" are.

At least "Dungeon" has retained, and in many ways exceeded, its former utility.

Yeah... I've quit buying Dragon, but I continue to buy Dungeon religiously. I didn't like the new look at first, but it grew on me... and the material just keeps getting better and better.

Really? It looks like the article is 'jam-packed' with things the current core rules cover already. Could it be that this view of earlier Dragon as having more utility than recent issues derives from the fact that the system those issues were supporting was dodgier and more haphazard, and thus had more holes to fill in general? Just wondering... :)
