DRAGON ROOTS Magazine fact page

DOH! (See Below - it is Good News :) )

Actually, charging more for the PDF than the print version makes it much less likely that I will bother with either - too expensive by comparison. And 50% shipping (not your fault, I realize - the number of folks that I know who are annoyed with the Post Office and its increased rates are legion) is another reason to put off bothering.

This is the same reason why I do not bother with WotC PDFs - it is a false economy, and not worth my money.

Good luck with the magazine, but I very much doubt that I am the only person of this opinion - most will not bother to complain, they simply will not buy.

*EDIT* I see by your website that the PDF subscription cost has been dropped to a much more reasonable rate of $20 for four issues. This makes a huge difference, though I recommend that you edit the above price list to prevent folks making the same assumptions that I did. For a $20 subscription it is very likely that I will be making the investment. :)

Er, I'm not sure how that is good news, you bashed everything I am doing :D :p

Anyway, I changed it above. Everything is a little hard to keep track of.

Of course I wish you would change your mind and give it a try but I understand your fears. Perhaps in the future you will change your mind.

Thanks for pointing that out though. :) ;)

Grump, I don't think they're offering a PDF-only subscription plan. My guess is that you saw this blurb on their website:

If you purchase a 4 issue subscription you can purchase a downloadable pdf of each issue for a total of $5 for all 4 issues.

This isn't an offer to purchase a 4-issue PDF subscription for $5 per PDF. It's saying that if you buy the 4-issue printed magazine subscription, you can pay an additional $5 for PDF copies of the four printed issues you signed up for.

Actually, you're both wrong. I guess it doesn't bode well when so many are confused on the point :(

Dragon Roots was never intended to be a pdf magazine, it is print. I made it pdf as an after thought. I think this is why there is so much confusion about the pricing for the pdf.

IF, you buy a PRINT copy, you can purchase a PDF copy as well for an additional $2, or $3 if you want it on a disk instead of download. I thought that was fair.

Since it is NOT a pdf magazine, and also, because I freely admit that I am not an expert at pricing pdfs, I figured $8 was a fair price for the pdf. ENWorld responded so I decided to lower the price to $4.95 an issue for pdf ONLY to see how that goes.

I did mention once that I was considering $5.95 an issue for a PDF ONLY with a pdf only subscription going for $20 for a 4 issue subscription, thus each issue would cost $5, which is what most people on ENWOrld seemed willing to pay.

Does that clear it up?

For easier pdf ordering I am uploading the pdf version of the magazine to Paizo.com. It won't go up until Monday though.

In the mean time, you can continue to place pdf orders on my website at www.dragonroots.net.

I'll keep you posted when you can order it at paizo and other stores like RPGNOW.

Am I understanding this right? $45 for a quarterly subscription (4 issues) + padded envelope shipping?

Also, would it be possible to pay in adavnce for future issues, stacking subscriptions?

Hello, and thanks for the interest.

Yes, if you lived in the USA and wanted a 4 issue subscription with a padded envelope your total would be $45.

I am willing to work with anyone for any situation. I hadn't planned on excepting longer subscriptions, but yes, I have no problem with that.

There is one concern and that is during year two we are shooting for a bi-monthly distribution (6 issues a year) and in year three we are planning on being ambitious and moving to a monthly magazine (12 issues in a year). We are also hoping that during the first year I can find a way to reduce printing costs through higher volume printing and lower shipping costs to reduce the overall price of the magazine and subscriptions.

If this happens, I guess I would just give you a credit or refund for the difference. That works for me if that is okay with you.

You can send payment through PayPal to dragonroots@comcast.net or you can send a money order or check payable to Christopher Rocco to Dragon Roots c/o Christopher Rocco 311 Winifred Street East, St. Paul MN 55107.

If you want a total, just e-mail me at dragonroots@comcast.net along with your shipping address and the length of the subscription you want and I will be happy to e-mail you a total.

I hope you enjoy and I hope to hear from you soon. ;)

UPDATE Dragon Roots Magazine is now sold in the Minnesota branch of
Misty Mountain Games & Diversions and after this coming weekend, it will be sold in their Madison Wisconsin branch.

Good luck getting the magazine running. I bought a copy at the Source earlier today, and I plan to continue buying future issues so long as it isn't 4e-focused (yep, I'm one of the dreaded 4e naysayers! :P)

I'd buy a subscription, but with shipping at such punitive levels, it's actually cheaper to buy issues individually at the Source.
