Dragon Spam!!!!

I have been a subscriber for almost a year now, and I have been spammed since!

I have gotten since last October several pieces of junk mail, things like the Science Fiction Book club (Im already a member), and the Long Ridge Writers group... I admit that it hasnt been a haevy flood, but annoying all the same.

And you are asking me now how I know that Dragon did it? There are two places I use the name Tolen Mar. Here on the boards and my subscription to Dragon. Dragon is the only place that has my address and the name Tolen Mar.

(I did that because every magazine I ever got had a sticker on it with the name and address on it, so I thought Id put it in Tolen's name so it would look like it belonged in the collection. Then I found out they mailed it in plastic bags....)

Whats the point? I dunno..guess I just wanted to rant.

Um, that's VERY odd. I've been a Dragon subscriber since 1999 and the only spam I've ever received has been from credit card companies and the US Armed Forces - both of which got my address from other places; of that I'm quite certain.

Are you SURE you haven't given out that name, coupled with your address, anywhere else?

No, it's not Spam made out of dragon, it's what dragons consider spam (canned meat). In other words, low level fighters in full plate!

Absolutely. I've never given that name with that address anywhere before.


Now on the other hand, Dragon spam could be quite tasty.

I've also received offers from Realms of Fantasy and some other book clubs which use my nickname (which is the name I gave Dragon) vs. my full name so I'm pretty sure that's where they're coming from.

Why did you give Dragon your email address? Unless you're talking about old fashioned junk mail of course. It's pretty common pratice for mailing lists and subscription lists of magazines to be rented to related merchants. It's nothing new, and it's not just Dragon, and it's not spam. Spam is junk email, snail mail junk mail is just junk mail.
