[Dragon Star] Half Dragons

In Dragonstar a +3 is about right, with all those energy weapons flying around, a 3 level loss is bad. In 'standard' DnD, maybe +4, not sure.

In Dragonstar, the massive strength bonus is much less useful. Breath weapon, while still nice, has to compete with assault blasters. No flight for PC races. Elemental immunity can be good though, especially for blue/bronze. Loss of HPs and BAB really hurts since the strength doesn't compensate.

Agreed... In dragonstar, not only are physical stats much less important, but loss of hitpoints is much more painful. A first level half dragon could quite easily be taken out in Dragonstar while his fourth-level companions faired quite well.

In the Dragon Star game I am playing in we have 2 half dragon who are 1st level. I am a soulmech 3rd level cleric. My hit points with out the soul mech bouns points I have twice the hit points and the same range Modified BAB as the Half Dragon Fighter. On top of that all my saves are the same or better.

I don't like them purely because of the fact that my munkinish players all ways want to play them and I don't want to start a party at 4th level.

In a Planescape campaign I ran, one of the characters was a gold half-dragon. The +3 ECL balanced him just fine with the rest, it really did. The stuff he lost from the three levels easily made up for the benefits he gained from the template.
