Does Hurl Breath seem kind of overpowered to anyone else? It basically makes any dragonborn which takes it into a multiclass wizard (first round of initiative, pop a bunch of minions with both a generous range and even more generous area).

Well... for a single feat they could Multi in Wiz and use a wand to the same effect, but have a lot more choices of powers... here they don't need a wand.

Not overpowered, but certainly very nice if you take all the other breath feats.

It's still better - with a wand, you can only pull it off once per day, probably with a worse attack roll, and need a money-investment.

Plus, the wizard gets his first damaging attack of this size as encounter ability on 3rd (Shock Sphere, also burst 2 at 10). Though it deals 1d6 damage more...

The dragonborn gets this at 1st.

But there's some serious toe-stepping, especially minion-wise. Though I won't cry "overpowered" at this point, just very good.

Cheers, LT.

I think the thing that really sets red flags off for me is that it's a burst 2 instead of a burst 1. I could see a feat making your breath weapon into a close blast 5, and I could see a feat making your breath weapon into an area 1 burst within 10 squares, but combining the two into a single feats seems too powerful.

I think I'd house rule it to by a burst 1 instead of a burst 2.

Yea, but for minions, damage isn't as important as frequency. You can dragons breath once/encounter. You can thunderwave or whatever the vs ref fire one every single round

The Burst 2 is definitely an eye opener to see as a Wizard. It takes us a Daily to get something that large so early. Would not be surprised to see a errata on that by the time the full Dragon download is available, like they did to the Class Acts piece last month.

This power would make the Dragonborn into a interesting Wizard as he could really go more outside the box with his encounter powers, having a big area one already covered.

One question, would a Hurl Breath cause the Dragonborn to be subject to a opportunity attack? It would seem so rules wise, though mechanically he is probably doing the same motion to make the attack as the old blast one.

Isn't a Burst 2 the same area as a Blast 5?
More to the point...isn't the enlarged breath weapon heroic feat a Blast 5?

Therefore, isn't the Burst 2 range feat better than the Blast 5 feat?
Or wait...the ranged one will provoke AoO from those right in front of you, right?
