Dragonlance 30th Anniversary!

Dragonlance
30th Anniversary
By Shannon Appelcline

Thirty years ago this March, the world of Krynn debuted in the Dragonlance series of adventures and novels. There have been quite a few twists and turns in the years since -- and today we offer a brief history of one of D&D’s most innovative settings!

Happy 30th anniversary Dragonlance! I started with Tales of the Lance in the 90's and had great adventures on Ansalon since then, which i continue to visit from time to time...

I liked the original books when I read them as a kid - I am a sucker for high fantasy. I also enjoyed reading the modules, but I never played them, largely because of the rail roady nature of them.

This is one story that would look good as a film if properly done.

Wow, 30 years, happy anniversary Dragonlance.

I started with OD&D and 1E a few months before Dragonlance was released and loved the game but it was Dragonlance that formed the way I've played the game ever since with a strong story driven game driving the plot. I've even been toying with the idea of sending my players back to the original Dragonlance modules even though we've all read the books and know the story inside out.

30 fraggin' years!?!?

Hoooh-LEE!...Gods, I'm old.

:(

Oh...yeah...and happy 30th Anniversary Dragonlance.

Elmore's covers would forevermore shape my conception and imagery of what my PCs might look like.

[Anyone else convinced Tanis was the prototypical "Half-elf Ranger" until seeing the stats in the modules? A FIGHTER?! I was shocked!]

Yes, I had thought of Tanis as the iconic ranger before I saw him as a fighter in the module as well.

and, yes, 30 years ago means I'm old, too.

I too thought Tannis was the prototypical half-elven ranger. Ahh..dragonlance, perhaps the most successful and evocative D&D fiction. This was the story and setting that really made me accept and enjoy pseudo-vancian spell casting. It had always seemed kind of weird and half backed before (I had never read Vance), but Dragonlance made the D&D magic user come alive for me.
