Dragonlance - It's On !!!

So I finally have the fast track on a copy of the new Dragonlance Campaign Setting book, and I should have it in my hands within a week. I had mentioned in previous threads that my gaming group is getting together after a year of no gaming to 'try it again'. We are going to be using 3.5 and I had planned a Forgotten Realms game, because I thought I wouldn't have the new DLCS in time.

I've also mentioned that I am going to be changing the War of the Lance for my campaign. Basically, I will be starting the characters during the middle of the Dragonlance Chronicles books.....but things are going badly for the good guys - the Dragon Armies are winning. The High Clerist Tower falls. Verminaard stays in control of Pax Tharkas, etc. etc.

One of my players is going to play a Dwarvern Fighter, and an Elven Wizard, the other will probably play a Human aspiring to be a Knight of Solomnia, and a Kender Rogue.

I was thinking about starting with the fall of the High Clerist's Tower and going from there......I'm looking for adventure ideas, and any advice on what to keep in mind if I am changing the War of the Lance era.

Thanks.

How about the loss of Whitestone to the Dragonarmies? The PCs would have to go in to retrieve the dragonlances that were made before the loss of Huma's Tomb.

How about recovering the dragonorb from the High Clerists Tower before it gets used?

How about leading a scouting mission into Pax Tharkas to gather intelligence?

Don't look at me. Most of what I know from Dragonlance is FROM the new d20 setting book. It is quite nice...plenty of regional maps, nice artwork throughout, and plenty of good crunch, too. I've always liked the way DL magic worked, to some extent, and I find the Kender penalty to concentration checks hysterically funny.

Is the book official out yet? I thought it wasn't even printed yet.

Anybody know what the official release date was supposed to be? Thanks!

Its supposed to come out in September, if memory serves. It's not on the shelves yet. I won my copy from a little birdie who's initials are EN, and he lives in his own little World. :)

The Sovereign Press folks told me the 'street date' is August 22nd.

Now, tuning back into my questions:

Any adventure ideas for the setting described in my thread above ?

Any advice on things I need to keep in mind if I am altering the War of the Lance ?

Thanks.

Remember that Mystics and Sorcerers haven't been rediscovered yet.

Why don't you have it so that Sturm DOESN'T die defending the High Clerist tower? Instead, he could be captured by Kitiara and, well, things could turn interesting from there.

*sigh* I wish that I had a DL group to play in.

Start the War of the Lance from an earlier point in the war.
The war had been raging long before the Red Dragonarmy launched it's assault on Abanasinia, and Goldmoon found the Disks of Mishakal.

You could even go back to the War's beginning.
In that case, the Dragonarmies hold Taman Bursak and Icewall.
The Dragonarmies are preparing to invite or coerce Sanction, Estwilde, Khur, Kern (ogres), Zhakar (the dark dwarves), Takar (the ogres), Mithas (the minotaurs), and the Thanoi into joining them.

Once they succeed, their initial assault will be southeast, into Silvanesti.
Should that succeed, they will then attack Balifor, then Kendermore, then the rest of the eastern peninsula.
Should that succeed, they will attempt the conquest of Nordmaar.
At this point, Lemish will betray it's allies and join with them.
Goblins allied with the Dragonarmies will aid them to take the strategic region of Throt.
Then the Dragonarmies will launch attacks against Heartlund and Hinterlund in Solamnia, hoping to take Solanthus and Vingaard City and Keep.
Mainwhile, the Dragonarmies will launch assaults against Kaolyn, hoping to overwhelm the dwarven defenders so the assault on Southlund can commence.
The Dragonarmies will then launch an amphibious assault on Hylo, in Northern Ergoth, hoping to gain an easy beachhead there.
And, and only then, will Lord Verminaard lead the Red Dragonarmy across New Sea into Abanasinia, ultimately overrunning it, then Qualinesti, and finally taking Tarsis.

But it could all go differently, in your campaign.

Let me suggest starting the campaign close to Silvanesti, but only after the Dragonarmies have been turned away by Lorac using the Dragon Orb. Starting the campaign there would give the player characters access to a Dragon Orb (should they wrest it from Lorac) and Knowledge of Dragon Lances, Good Dragons, The Old Gods and a good ally base in the Silvanesti. The libraries in Silvanost would probably be the best source of information on these items short of the Tower of High Sorcery in Wayreth. From there the campaign could go many directions.
