Dragonlance: Key of Destiny & WOL

First Post
Hello everyone!

Has anyone picked up the first Key of Destiny yet?

Does anyone know if it is set firmly in the age of Mortals, or could it be played pre or immediately post WOL?

Also, I hear the WOL sourcebook was on track for Gencon release. Any word on that?

Thanks,

Razuur

The adventure IS FIRMLY SET in the AoM. It is quite expansive and will be the 1st part of a trilogy of large adventures I believe.

Pretty good stuff too. As soon as a few more supplements hit for DL, I will be running this super-mod.

aside from a couple of typos, this module is brilliantly done. the writing is great, and its actually just as enjoyable to read as it is to run. Not very railroady either; the pcs have a lot of choices on how to get where they need to go. Chris did a great job.

I haven't got it yet, I am kind of down on the prices of Sov. Press's books and I am waiting for reviews on it. I want to like their Dragonlance stuff but the weak art, mistakes, low page counts for the price etc. really get to me... especially WOTL, which I won't get unless it is less than 30 on Ebay, including shipping... an I really wanted this book, I just can not afford the cover price...

umm. key of destiny is 176 pages long. That seems pretty reasonable at 25 bucks. The art inside is good too, and the module goes a long way in describing and offering flavor for the previously unexplored region of Khur.

As for mistakes, well, until recently, there was only one person really doing all the work at sov press. a few slips are bound to happen.

I'm not a big fan of "trilogy" modules.

Maybe they could just release it in one book. I guess it'd be too big. I don't know?

Is this new module series going to have a fairly significant impact on the DL world?

Key of Destiny takes place six months after the War of Souls trilogy and involves an epic story featuring a *major* artifact of Krynn (even though you specifically asked I'm not sure you really want me to spoil which artifact), and the trilogy is promised to make some pretty major changes to the world of Krynn.

Not "world shattering", they're shying away from that after so many such events in the novels, but I know what's ahead and I can vouch that its pretty significant. It'll have a definite impact on future novels, but the events in the adventure trilogy will never be actually be told in novel form, only referenced by future novels, ergo you get to affect the world but not by living in the shadows of other heroes, or simply retracing their steps.

The pacing is very cinematic, with lots of great paths to the conclusion, not a lot of railroading, the paper is super glossy and the art is great (the interior art is done by Udon Studios, quite popular for their work on the Exalted RPG.)

I must say I'm extremely impressed with it.

yeah, what Kai said =)

Also, Chris Coyle is to be commended for his statting out of encounters. The module lets you know exactly what happens if the PCs choose to combat, talk or whatever their way out of an encounter, and offers suggestions on how to award experience for them. The writing is also cool enough that the module makes for a great story to just sit and read.
The maps are crisp and clear, and easy to follow for the most part. Errata for the typos and stuff (a stone tower with a Bread DC of 50 =) will be posted soon. All in all, between KoD and the new Beastiary, i have high hopes for the future of Dragonlance. each product gets successively better.

I understand that Sov. Press is a small operation wholeheartedly understand, but when a book doesn't list Alignments for characters as important as Palin and Dalamar I get a little fuzzy and the poor quality of the scans etc. in Age of Mortals doesn't help. I don't want to get down on Sov. Press because the stuff is extremely well written in spite of the errors, I mean there is more flavour in one paragraph than all the sentences in most RPG products combined but when you compound the editing errors, mechanical errors (in a product with little mechanics in it even) and the poor artwork in the DLCS and AoM it tends to get a body down... but hey, I LOOOOOVE Udon, those guys rock the cassbah (however its spelled) like no other and their artwork helps sell a product for me...

SO who is doing the art in War of the Lance and any indications on that final page count? I would really like to know more about this product before I decide to plunk down my cash and whether it is going to have better artwork etc. than previous offerings...
