Dragonlance question...

Even for people who have not read the War of Souls, or picked up a single book since either the end of Legends or Dragons of Summer Flame, we packed enough information into both the DLCS and the Age of Mortals to ensure that no one feels left in the dark!

Luckily, the finale of the War of Souls trilogy is already out in paperback, so we didn't really have to worry about "spoiling" the novels for any one ;)

But, in the DLCS, there's also enough information that you could start a campaign during the War of the Lance, if that happens to be your cup of tea :) We understand that there are people that prefer one Age over another so we're working to make sure that those people have plenty to play with!

No thats why there are three people in this thread who have expressed limited knowledge of and/or little interest in them and 3 others have not.
Like I said, for those who want to have their hands held by Tanis and Raistlin when there isn't a lot of conflict going on, 2004 is the year for you. ;)

EDIT: Wait a minute, Raistlin died shortly after the War of the Lance, so make that having your hand held by Tanis or Tika. :p

Let me clue you in. THE HEROES WON. THE GODS CAME BACK. there. the war of the lance is long gone. Let it die, and let dragonlance live without this baggage.

Baggage? There is no baggage.

I liked playing in the war of Huma.
I liked kicking the collective ass of the Istari empire.
I liked the post-cataclysmic times.
I liked playing during the war of the lance.
I liked the summer of Chaos.
I liked the beginning of the Fifth Age.
I liked the War of Souls.
I definitely like Krynn as it is post-WoS.

And I'm going to like doing it all again. And again. :)

I'm all up for the DLCS to start with the 5th age. Gives me time to finish my current DL campaign. ;)

With regards to the ages, I do much prefer the 4th age, as do my players. It was the chronicles that brought me into roleplaying and to Dragonlance, and although the setting has moved on I didn't like where it went (5th age). I don't blame anyone for that nor do I throw up my hands in disgust. Instead I ignore the 5th age events and make the future my own for Krynn.

And the heroes of the lance don't hold our hands when we play. We all make our own adventures in whatever age we play.

I was mostly kidding about that. I've played in the War of the Lance era as well and rarely had any interactions with the HotL.

And I'm not a sucker for anything with "Dragonlance" written on it. After Dragons of Summer Flame in 1995, I went 8 years without picking up a single DL novel. I just thought the world had changed too much from what I knew. But recently I plowed through the War of Souls and can honestly say everything's back to the way I liked it, plus even more.

Whooo boy. I would definitely pick my DL launch setting to be the one that 90% of gamers dont care about and most havent even bothered to read. Heck just set it in Pern instead. Nobody would know any better.

Everyone has their own favorite eras. That's why the DLCS gives support for both the War of the Lance era and the early Fifth Age. Sourcebooks will be coming to detail lots of other eras as well. We decided to begin our focus after the War of Souls for a number of reasons, and though we cannot please everyone, so far many fans have responded positively.

It should prove to be quite a ride. We hope you join us!

Very true...because of SAGA, a lot of Dragonlance gamers were disillusioned with what became of the world of Krynn. That's one of the things that Margaret & Tracy tried to repair with the War of Souls trilogy, moving the world forward so that there are now lots of things going on that provide adventure seeds: the rise of the Minotaur Empire, the return of the gods and magic, the fate of the elven peoples, etc. Many of the Dragon Overlords are dead, the world is once more revitalized... but, either way, everyone does have their favorite period, mostly the War of the Lance era.
Well, you're right about the SAGA factor. And I will publicly admit, after reading the Dragon of Summer Flame, I didn't like the way the world of Krynn was heading. [Plus you killed my favorite character, Tanis!] But since the day Dragonlance ceased to use the AD&D rules, I longed for the day it will return.

I guess, there is but one other way to change my buying decision: Minotaurs. More importantly, the League Minotaurs of Taladas. Basically any good story (with game material) from Taladas, the other continent of Krynn.

Taladas is one subject in a long list of things we'd like to explore, though unfortunately it's one that you'll have to wait for!
