Ah. The obligatory ENWorld crap on DragonLance thread.
It's been a few months. Welcome back thread - how ya been?
To summarize: a substantial number of ENWorlders condemn the entire setting because of some railroading in the initial DL 1st edition module series. Essentially - the setting sucks because they didn't like their DM 23 years ago and nothing said done or written since then is EVER going to change their minds.
The presence of the largest TSR/WotC novel line makes others think that the most important story has already been told - so why bother? (The same argument does not follow with respect to FR though.)
Others hate what was done with Dragons of a New Age. Hard to disagree with this one. It was universally reviled by most DL fans too, let alone its detractors. The setting did everything it could to retrofit over that crap and reverse it. (Blame Jean Rabe and TSR - not DragonLance).
And still others see gnomes and kender as presented so memorably - that any attempt to roleplay one in the DL setting comes off as a cookie cutter of the archeype. Thus - "DL sucks".
Ignored in all of this by many ENworlders are some excellent adventures, great organizations with amazing depth and identity that no other setting equals (Order of High Sorcery, Knights of Solamnia, Knights of Neraka) and a vibrant fan community. You might also add to this - one of the best 3.5 series of settings books for D&D anywhere.
Nothing is going to change those detractors minds or the results of this thread. In fact, I've read this thread or versions thereof about half a dozen times in the past two years.
So why don't we not discuss it and say we didn't. This traffic circle has no exits - and it never will on ENWorld.
