Dragonlord Campaign Setting

Take part in the creation of a whole new campaign setting! Make a difference, and get your names written among the stars!

I am creating a new campaign setting for D&D, called Dragonlord, and now I need You to assist me.

During the last five weeks I have written a 48-page skeleton for the whole campaign setting, to act as a guide for the real campaign setting. This full 320-page supplement for D&D will be finished in june 2008 as a project in my college. During the spring semester, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, I will write on this massive project, and I need you on this forum to give response on the project. Give me your thoughts as you read the document, share your ideas on new stories, places, monsters, or anything that comes to mind. This can be a creation of the whole D&D community!

You're going to have a little competition I fear. Aside from that, what's your 'hook'? What makes this 320 worth reading? What's so special about it? What sets it apart from FR, Greyhawk, and thousands of other homebrews, and hundreds of failed community worlds?

Sorry if I sound a bit cynical, but in college I tried must the same thing making a post to the AD&D-L listserv every bit as audacious and naive. Keep this mind - anybody with time can write a setting and anybody willing to write on a setting is going to work on their own stuff. Those without time will likely use published settings since they offer the most detail and support.

That was just a little drama to draw your eyes toward the post and continue to read it.

Here is a brief synopsis from the back of the book:
Unfold yor wings, and fly into a world ruled by the most powerful creatures in existence. Be a dragonborn and test your mettle againt the mighty half-red dragon fire giant that is rampaging in the village. Challange a spellscale for a mage-duel, and see if wizardry or sorcery is the supreme art. Or join in with the freedom fighters of the Free States, and fight the oppression of the Dragonlords.

In a world as infinite as the coins in Astilabor’s hoard, you can be anything you can imagine.


As for the links, I had some problems with my server yeasterday, but the file sould be able to be downloaded now. Gonna check in the link to Lulu, it should have worked, but it is not as important as the file.

The purpose and goal of this Campaign Setting is not actually to make it commercial and able to sell; it is more of a school project and serves to enhance my writing skills and help me in getting a job after school. I intend to elbow myself into the computer game market as a writer and game designer, and this will help me on that road.
 

Yeah link works now.

I have read the skeleton, and while I dont love it all, most of it is really good, and I think it has the potential to make a great campaign world.

Great, thanks! If you have some specific point you want to change or think is good, feel free to tell me about them, so I can change or remember them.
 

What I liked the least was the whole "rule of 10" that you seem to have going, with 10 types of dragon, 10 countries, 10 dragon gods, 10 moons, 10 outer planes, etc etc. Might be clever, but it just felt a bit too forced imo.

I tried something similar in a campaign back in the 90'ies, and my players really didnt like it, for what it is worth.

I agrre with you that it may be a bit of a rip-off from Eberron, bit the fact is that the most prominent dragon types (those from Monster Manual) are ten. And that I use ten as a base in the calender is just a matter of conveniense; I much prefer the decimal system before the "system" of 12 months, 7 days, 24 hours and so on.
But maybe I should reduce the emphasis on the number 10, maybe reduce or increase the number of planes, as that seem to be the most loosley connected. Thanks for the response, Jack!
