Dragons as PC's

Has anyone played a dragon as a PC recently? If so, which rules were used, the Draconomicon or the Dragon Magazine? How did the dragon fit in with the party? How did it compare power-wise? I was thinking of making one to play in the Red Hand of Doom adventure, around level 8-9, and wanted to get some ideas and opinions...

I played in a PbP game with all dragons, using Draconomicon rules. It seemed like everyone was balanced, at least with each other.

I DMed a game with a PC black dragon and am currently playing a PC silver dragon, both using the Dragon mag versions. They both seem to work out pretty well.
