Dragons In FR- Arn't they sposed to be BIG!!!

I thought the original box set for the FR states that dragons in the realms are supposed to be bigger than the ones listed in the MM (1st ed). Maybe I dreamed this or made it up. Does anyone else remember this? I figure all the current dragon stuff reflects everything else about them, but I thought they were supposed to be a bigger breed or somthing.

They extended it (in the grey box) from the original MM to venerable and great wyrm and gave them extra attacks.

Those are now in the new MM so it pretty much evened itself out I think. For instance Klauth in the Western Heartlands is a great wyrm and is statted out pretty close to the MM.

Yes, in 1e FR dragons were more powerful than "core" dragons. They had 2 extra age categories (that became standard in the next editions) and more breath weapon damage.

you know that dragons in the dragonlance setting are smaller but I never remember dragons in the realms being bigger

I remember reading somewhere that they were twqice the size of 1e MM dragons. They supposedly were longer, bigger of girth etc etc. I remember this because I remember thinking that a dragon would be ridculously huge in FR after the 2e MC came out if you followed the sizing suggestions.

But it may very well have been that I was out of my mind and making it up. Now looking at it, dragons seem to make perfect sense WRT FR.

In the SAGA 5th age dragonlance, they had dragons with an extra extra two age categories... I believe they were Legendary Worm and We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat.
