Dragon's making half-dragon minions.

Before I resumed DMing for our group the previous DM had us run across some dragons who were doing this exact thing with various types of giants. I gotta tell ya, those are some nasty offspring, although I'd imagine that demon lords would be far worse!!

Well I was thinking about it last night when I was trying to go to sleep (anyone else find their mind cluttered with ideas when they lay down to go to bed?). My thoughts evolved around a red dragon that started it, began making hordes of anything he could find including orcs and such. A gold dragon found that this was unacceptable and decided to try to come up with some own half dragon minions. But the gold dragon did it in a different way, he was selective in what he "created". He left them to their own devices sometimes visiting them in their dreams and then when they reached maturity he came to them telling them of their "destiny" and tried to recruit them to fight the evil dragon's minions. After that he would train them and stuff, sorta making crusaders. Well that is all i came up with before I did finally fall asleep.

One of the main villains in my home campaign is a the ghost of a Old Green Dragon. (She's dead and she doesn't like it.)

She used a ritual (and the aid of the Cult of the Dragon) to imbue all her bones with magic, so that they have turned into Amulets that will turn you into a half-dragon. They also rewrite your memories and make you completely loyal to your new "mother" when the transformation is complete. :)

It's not always about breeding.

Don't neglect the various reptilian races, most of which speak Draconic as their native tongue. I can see Dragons fighting a war over the hearts and minds of local Lizardfolk populations, or trying to manipulate the local Kobold tribes.

Gold and Silver half-dragons I can see leaning towards Paladin, or Paladin/Sorceror of a good Human god or Bahamut, and I think all half-dragons would be somewhat inclined towards Sorceror.

The easiest way for the dragon to mold the new allies is to raise them-- either through the voluntary cooperation of the other parent or by enslaving or killing them. Of course, metallic dragons would lean to the former and chromatics to the latter.

Half-dragon kobolds make excellent minions, as they have a quick maturation and often look to dragons as quasi-divine inspiration.
What would be terrifying would be if a red dragon made a covenant with the Abyss. Fighting a half dragon balor would not be my idea of a good day.

Demiurge out.

See, I was right. I'd make a good evil genius.:D

Well, if Black Dragons decide to use Lenerian Pyro-hydras, they've got the 'Nasty Minion Award' in the bag, I think.

The bugger's immune to damage!

I am very much afraid now.
