Quick, name the TSR setting which featured absent gods and dragons as mere myths and legends.
If you said "Dragonlance", you're right. If you also said "Dark Sun", you see where I'm going with this.
I was flipping through my old TSR .pdf library the other day when the parallels of the two settings hit me and ignited my curiosity. Could the epic saga of the War of the Lance be told in the epic setting of Athas? I'm no expert on either setting, so I thought I'd come here and bounce the idea off of those of you who are.
Could a motley collection of former slaves, half-giants, templars and preservers unearth a crystal staff which leads them to a lost city from the Green Age? Could they liberate strange, metal disks inscribed with the truth about now-forgotten gods from the dried and cracking grasp of a recently awakened dragon?
Could this same group unite the disparate city-states to stands strong against the armies of never-before-seen draconians who march at the command of Takhisis, the first sorcerer-queen to ever unlock the secret of becoming a dragon herself?
Basically, I'm looking at seeing how each adventure of the Dragonlance series (DL1-14) could be placed in the Dark Sun setting and am 100% open to ideas. Because the premise of the campaign is that mortals were abandoned by the gods and dragons are creatures only of legend, I think it's in keeping with that theme to introduce the (re)discovery of gods and the return of dragons to Athas.
However, I also know enough to know that at least one of the DL adventures features a journey to the ice-capped south and another has them facing off against pirates on the high-seas.
If you've any ideas for ways to adapt DS elements to the DL story (or vice versa) I'm all ears.
