DragonStar Character idea

First Post
I was watching TV the other night, and came across 5th Element. I always liked that film, but I understand why many didn't.

Ok, so that annoying radio star chracter... great idea for Dragonstar bard.

You are transmitting your adventures live! (or maybe recording them for latter, etc)

It's just a cool idea is all. Lets say that most civilized worlds have comsat (communication satilite) arrays, so in most civilized places, you would be transmiting into an exsisting system (which could in theory be connected into a massive intersteller com system etc) so you could really say he is transmiting the adventures live for the personal enjoyment of all, and to great rattings!

100cr for the communicator in the DragonStar book. Just wanted to share the idea.

Anyone had any other concepts for that kind of sci-fi/fantasy setting?

Real problem:

"Ok, so to to recap, our hero is trying to infiltrate the base of the secretive United Thislemanian Front in the guise of a new recruit. He's just approaching the gate officer now...."

'Oh :):):):), does anyone know if the UTF get SBS?'

number one: it works better as radio... no one is really going to know what the characters/reporter/etc character is going to look like. Number two, politics is politics, but buisness is business. If you got a radio show staring a a guy that some times does stuff the government doesn't like, the gold-dragon nations would protect him and buisness would help him because he makes money. Number Three: you stick the adventurer's transmiter and inter-steller relay system on a delayed system (takes a while to get the transmition throught he system for broadcasting/etc) so the enemies don't really know what is going on live (it is transmited live)

You could even say that the goverment actualy takes the delay time to censor the reports as he makes them. Comercial breaks enforced at certain times... etc.

Lastly, the PCs true identies might be protected (they use nick names, pictures are intentionaly not shown of them, etc) so they are not so easy to find and stop...

just and idea. might work better for an NPC. Still I'd love to try and run that.

OR they are pirate radio... which is very popular. The bard records their adventures and latter transmits them. Mostly they don't use images because it would make it to easy to identify them (so they just transmit audio, edited for their own protection)

That works too. especialy if they are part of a resistence movement. Rebel radio.

On an unrelated note, in a Cyberpunk 2020 game I played in I had a Media who was a Spider cyborg. He had built in cameras, and a satelite uplink. He filmed his rl tv show 'From the Jungle' form the heart of the amazon in the middle of a corp war. He used to get the public to vote on what job(he used to freelance jobs from both sides in the conflict, and do them with the others in the group) he was going to take next... Man that was a ***ked up game...

Goal isn't to give the character an interactive system (he doesn't cary a dish for receiving info... just sends it out and lets the big satalites pick it up)

If he could recivie info, then it would be to much trouble for a DM to decide what kind of info he can get. then it becomes a problem. if he can just send info, then it becomes role playing details... which is what I think would be cool.

Still a little voice in your ear that says "ok, on comercial for 60" every now and then could be nifty.
