Dragonstar Questions

Soulmech

Boy, I am a chatty fellow tonight.

Soulmechs don't have a Con. It's in the Faq on the Fantasy Flight Dragon Star messageboards. It's also pretty logical. Robot and Soulmech share stats. Robots don't have Con.

Just use your class Fort save, feats, and any magical bonuses.

Re: More on DR.

Forgot that part. No Lasers and Blaster do NOT ignore DR just like any attack. (Save those that go strait to a stat, as in magical attacks.) Must have the DR subtracted. That's why stacking DR with Elemental Resistance in this game is so much fun!

BTW: An item of 1/day use of Elemental Resistance to the big 3 is affordable right off the bat. Just tap 3 times and say bye-bye to 5 points of Fire/Electricy/Sonic damage. Heh.
I think you will find that elemental damage ignores DR. BLasters and Lasers do elemental damage, thus are uneffected by DR. This was confirmed by Wil (from FFG) on the Dragonstar Yahoo list.

DMG Page 74: "Magical attacks and energy attacks (even mundane fire) ignore damage reduction."

Also settles the lightsaber/force blade discussion - it's an energy weapon - thus it ignores DR....

Ya your right.

Oiy. Ya, my friend reminded me this morning. Didn't post my contraction in time. I was thinking that energy based weapons still produced standard damage. Ouch.

My bad. Thanks.

Re: Sniper Rifle issues.

The sniper rifle...ah.

3 reasons to use it.

1. Range

2. Non-elemental damage type. 1d12 of standard damage. Add to it sneak attack bonuses. (Which I think scopes should allow the Sneak attack range to increase...if he's taking his time.)

3. Harder to track that that sizzling bolt of blue fire you just launched from your blaster rifle. Heh.

Range? It has the same range as a blaster rifle. Though it's not that big. I still have problems with the fact that a sniper rifle does *less* damage than a compound bow (1d12+4).

Just an aside...

I've always thought it was kinda funny how most games have lasers do more damage to characters than ballistic weapons...

Why?

Because it is my understanding that lasers should cauterize the wounds inflicted, while ballistic weapons do no such thing...

Thus IMHO I think that ballistic weapons should do more damage then lasers or at the very least have the ballistic damage have a chance of dealing a wound that keeps bleeding until it is patched up.

Just my 2 cents,
Joseph

PS: I believe once lasers become a viable infantry weapon that many states will seek to outlaw the use of ballistic weapons so as to make a more "humane" warfare.
