Dragonstar Questions

Okay, on the topic of the spaceships, is the combat system up to mixing magitech and magic? Are fighters/bombers a viable part of the system? Are the ships modeled after semi-realistic ideas (e.g., enclosed ships), rather than the open, "air surrounds the ship in a bubble" system of SpellJammer?

It's about two weeks before I'll own the books, so I'm kinda curious....

I own Dragonstar and I would say the ships are pretty standard sci-fi fair and are enclosed. There are some twists to them, being that magic is as common as it is in standard 3e but the ships remind me of some of the old ones from Traveler a bit.

Very interesting that you say that (re: Traveler.) I thought the very same thing.

I love Dragonstar. It's a great great setting. I feared it would be a bit like Spelljammer (ey, I don't say it's bad, it isn't just my cup of tea), and not!
It reminds me Traveller. Traveller as I always wanted to play it, with elves, dwarves and magic.

The vehcle combat system is great too, I'm using it for my Star Wars games (I don't like SW d20 starship combat rules...).

The vehicle combat is great - especially in space, the most efficient way to kill capital ships? Throw little rocks at them...

Seriously, if you could throw a myriad of little rocks to a capital ship as enough speed to pass its defenses (in game terms, to go over its inmense Hardness) it would be a great attack form, fancier and cheaper than lasers :)
