As work begins to end on the Third Dawn Campaign Setting, the third preview is now available, detailing the new playable race: the ophiduan. You may recognize the name of this race, but it has been redesigned to be playable from level 1 onward.

Ophiduan
Sometimes referred to as “lizardmen,” the ophiduan race has resided in Tion for as long as the other intelligent races can recall. The race consists of a variety of castes, some more monstrous in appearance than others, although the most commonly sighted appear closer to scaly humanoids than monstrous creatures. This hominis caste of the ophiduan race is the dominant caste of the society, due both to culture and being the most populous of the castes. The hominis caste is actually the progenitor caste of the ophiduan race, while the other castes are experimentations and mutations of ophiduan. Ophiduan culture is based in and around the Ophid Protectorate, where they make up the majority race.
Regions: Ophiduan are typically only found in the Ophid Protectorate, which is located in the southern portion of the continent of Tion. However, as with any race, there are those who travel for a variety of reasons, so the scaled humanoids have been encountered outside of their own lands, albeit rarely.
Racial Abilities: Ophiduan have the following racial traits:
• +2 Dexterity, –2 Charisma: Ophiduan are lithe, but cold in demeanor and monstrous in appearance
• Monstrous Humanoid: Ophiduan are not subject to powers or effects that affect humanoids only, such as an unaugmented psionic charm or psionic dominate.
• Medium: As Medium creatures, ophiduan have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
• Ophiduan base land speed is 30 feet.
• Scaled Hide: An ophiduan’s skin is hardened scales and grants the character a +1 natural armor bonus to AC.
• Naturally Psionic: Ophiduan gain 1 bonus power point per character level. This benefit does not grant them the ability to manifest powers unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a psionic class.
• Serpent’s Bite (Ps): Once per day, an ophiduan can alter their jaws, gaining a bite attack that deals 1d8 points of damage, plus an extra 1d8 points of damage per five character levels beyond 1st. This effect lasts for 1 minute. Manifester level is equal to Hit Dice.
• Darkvision: Ophiduan can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and ophiduan can function just fine with no light at all.
• +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison.
• Favored Class: Psychic warrior or Society Mind. This choice must be made at 1st level and cannot be changed.
