Drive

How is it counter programming to Heroes? Heroes' timeslot is Monday at 9pm. Drive is Monday at 8pm. Heroes is up against 24, not Drive.

Oh. Um.. Good point. Its been so long since Heroes was on I guess I blocked out that insidious Deal or No Deal BS. Plum forgot it existed. Since I don't watch 24 when its airing I guess no big deal, now I have a lead into Heroes - though I guess I won't probably have that choice for long knowing Fox.

Alright, after seeing the third episode, I have one major gripe.

Canadians, who I understand won't see this until Friday, may want to stop reading.

Okay?

I'm already sick of the "random person as conspiracy" angle. The first two episodes, I could suspend belief, because it was set-up. This was a little over the edge, I thought.

The show is definitely shaping up as a cross between Lost and Amazing Race and Cannonball Run now. Last week was Corrina, this week was Alex, next week looks to be Babymama's exposition.

Also, I'm really not good with names, but am I the only one having trouble remembering anyone's names? All I know is Corrina, Alex and Winston, and I think his brother's name is Sean. I don't care overly much, because I'm used to blanking on names, but that's not a good thing if it's not just me.

All that said, I'm really enjoying this show. It's good mindless fun, and a great lead-in to either 24 or Heroes. The hour flew by like it was nothing, and I definitely wanted more after the end of the episode.

One thing that bugs me... in the credits, I wish they'd show Babymama and her partner in the same car. Especially since it seems the ones she left got eliminated, per the preview last week. Perhaps that will change now that we've lost the truck. Here's hoping.

I'm enjoying the show so far.

While the premise is pretty ridiculous overall I haven't had an issue with the repeated arrival of people involved in the conspiracy. They know the routes they'll most likely take, I would assume that their race phones have trackers in them and at least one of the people was at a diner near one of the checkpoints - an easy place to assume the racers will end up. What I want to know is how they have all these people in on the race and it is still a "secret race." I wonder if they are participants from previous years.

I thought it a fairly decent show so far; the wife and I will continue watching.

My nitpick: That ain't Florida and Georgia they're driving through. It's probably California, but that scrub and brush by the Interstate tells me it's definitely not Florida/Georgia.

As someone who has driven the stretch of I-75 from Gainesville FL to Tifton GA many many times (and if you're going by Interstate from Gainseville to Tifton, you'll be on I-75), I couldn't overlook that part. But still, not a deal-breaker so much as it's just irritating.

But on a more positive note, maybe this show will increase the nation's geography awareness.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw the first show! The way the racers are clueless with some of them being forced into the situation against their will coupled with the race coordinators having a type of Others from Lost mentality and approach to things makes me feel as if they are using some approaches from the Lost playbook.

Even the flashbacks and that crescendo at the end of a flashback are Lost-like to me.

Don’t get me wrong. I have seen all of the episodes of Drive so far and plan to continue to watch for a while.

I also agree that they are DEFINITELY not driving through Florida. I saw those creosote bushes in the background and told my son “That’s the Mojave desert in California or Nevada!”

Thanks for that! (Though, actually, we get it on Monday on FOX and then Friday again on one of our networks.)

I try :)

I wasn't aware Fox was showing it on Monday up there... or for that matter, you guys even got Fox unless you were near the border. It's showing on CTV on Fridays, right?

Well, the... uh, race coordinator guy did say in his phone conversation that Babymama had come in last again. That doesn't make sense if it was really the first leg of the race, unless she's been in it before.

Yeah, it's filmed in Ventura.
