do they sleep or do they trance? For some reason I remember somewhere saying they slept.. maybe I'm just imagining things.

IMO, since they are still elves, and they get all the elven racial traits except where noted otherwise in the MM, and it does not note otherwise, I would say they trance just like their surface cousins.

In books, it is said that they can't go into the Revere, the elven trance. However, there's nothing in the rulebooks that support this.

Right. Books are not considered canon material (which is good in a lot of cases).
