It is interesting (trivial, but interesting) that the rods were used by a Drow House that didn't worship Loth, but rather the Elder Elemental God aspect of Tharizdun;.

One note--The connection between the Elder Elemental God and Tharizdun is somewhat controversial, since no mention of this appears in any of the earlier materials and appears to have been made up in Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. Some people don't like what effect it had on Greyhawk cosmology.

OTOH, it's an interesting connection a good DM can use very well in designing an epic campaign connecting many of the classic modules.

This is true, although it seems to be hinted at in Monster Mythology; Compare the entries for "The Dark God" and the Elder Elemental Evil God, and then compare the entry for "The Dark God" to references of Tharizdun in The [Forgotten?] Temple of Tharizdun. It seemed to me, after the release of Monster Mythology, that a connection was implied (although, admidtedly, not confirmed), so when RttToEE used this as a main plot device, I guess I wasn't really surprised by it.

All this being neither here nor there, of course, which is why I called it "trivial".;)
