Drugs 'n' Darts

Hey kids!

One of my Modern players has a PC who dabbles in pharmaceuticals, so we've expanded the uses for Craft (Pharm) to include 'drug' making. It's a headache, believe me, but if anyone's interested, I'll post the rules here.

Now, back to the original point of this thread! He's after a tranq-dart type weapon, which isn't covered in Modern. However, I know there are rules for them in Spycraft, but I don't have my book with me, only the Modern one, so could someone post the Spycraft dart-gun (or whatever) rules here. Or is there a copyright issue? If so, NVM.

Cheers!

First, the web enhancement Even More Modern includes rules on making poisons and such. They use Craft (Chemical), though Craft (Pharmaceutical) is just as reasonable.
Second, I'd suggest checking the products besides the core book for dart guns. I say this because I found it in one of the more useful MSRD sites here. Tranquilizer darts can be fired by Air Rifles and Air Pistols.

Thanks for that.

The reason we've done it under Pharm rather than Chem (i.e. rather than poisons) is that pharmaceuticals can also be created to provide 'buffs', as it were, which is not something you associate with poisons. Obviously, this has had to be balanced by Side- & After-Effects, threat of addiction, possible withdrawal if addicted, etc etc.

But...uh...hijacked my own thread, there. Thanks again.

No trouble at all. I was glad to be of help. I hope things go well for you.

P.S. You may find Modern Skill Groups useful.

What I've done in some of my modern-era games is have characters with high-powered paintball guns, using ammo loaded with DMSO. More accurate than a single-short dart weapon, less need to be accurate, and anything that can be delivered via dart can be combined with the DMSO as a carrier. Better still, you can get more than a single shot. Realistically, of course, there's the dosage problem, which will vary the needed amount widely...but for the purposes of gaming, since d20 uses a generic 'dose', well. Paintball guns can also, if they're high-powered enough, deliver crossbow bolts at short ranges, and carry a huge variety of accessories - rangefinders, laser sights...you name it.

Interesting idea. Thanks, Jim.

De nada. I forgot to mention - a paintball gun is a lot easier to explain to police than a dart pistol or rifle, too. ;) And autofire, for when you've just got to hit someone a lot, or do crowd control.

I admit, I utterly yoinked the idea from Robert Aspirin's Phule's Company, where they loaded paintballs with high-explosives and acid.

Various incendiaries are useful as well, irritants like pepperspray, such things.
