Druid animal companion.

Looking through the Druid handbook, I saw that there are animal companions listed from the MM2 & 3. I wanted to know where it says that we can take animal companions from those monster manuals.

I guess this is one of those cases where it means "Ask your DM!". Sometimes things like that are mentioned in the monster entry ("This animal as animal companion"). As later books override earlier ones, that's always a good explanation.

Looking at the MM3 table of contents it seems that the book specifically says that you can take certain monsters as animal companions in it.

a friend of mine actually has a rabid squirrell as his animal companion. guess it all comes down to common sense and what the dm will or wont allow
