Druid animal companions

Quick question: Does the animal companion increase in size when the extra hit dice are added? Example, a 6th level druid has a wolf as a companion. The Bonus HD to the wolf from the druid give 6 hit dice (from 2 hit dice as normal). Under wolf (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/wolf.htm), they grow to large at 4-6 HD. I think that extra hit die gained from being a druid's animal companion aren't the same as the "natural" hit dice progression of wolves in general. Any reference to a ruling anywhere? If not, any opinions? Thank you.

edit: Durn bad grammar.

Remember that when you advance a monster's hit dice, it doesn't mean that a monster is "growing" to a larger size. A regular wolf is a normal full-size adult wolf, not a small baby wolf. An advanced wolf is a larger-than-normal adult wolf. They're not the same wolf at different ages.

Hmm, completely forgot about checking the FAQ. It certainly makes the most sense. That's too bad, though. I was looking forward to unleashing that large wolf on my party! ;)

Once you hit 5th level you can always summon up a large Dire Wolf, which is even better. Also, it is far more portable to carry a dire wolf around as a memorized spell than to try and manuever a horse-sized creature through your typical dungeon :-P
