Scent is a Extraordinary Special Quality. I don't think you get those when you Wild Shape or Polymorph.

You are correct... you don't get special qualities, but you do get special attacks.

All the suggestion seem abiout right, there doesn't seem to be many feats for druids in the PHb though... I thought this idea might be nice:

Dextrous fingers
You can manipulate objects even when lacking an opposable thumb.
Prerequisite: Nimble fingers
Benefit: When in an alternate form you do not need to have an opposable thumb to manipulate objects such as keys, bottles, pouches (DM discretion) etc. If trying to use a weapon you still take a -2 penalty to hit.
Normal: Without opposable thumbs you are unable to manipulate objects.

The 14th-level druid IMC took Mounted Combat as a feat and rides her animal companion. It's not really a powergamer's choice, though, but she has a lot of fun with it (as do we all, quite honestly). She chooses animal companions that are reasonable to ride, though, and it helps that she's a halfling.

Have a Druid PC in one of the campaigns I am in. Drd/Ftr 7/1.

Animal Comp = Light Warhorse
Feats: Mounted Combat, Spirited Charge, Ride By Attack etc. (all the charging feats)
Horseshoes of Speed for the horse

A lot of it depends on the flavor Druid you're playing.

For Wildshaping/melee Druids, I like the Combat Expertise/Weapon Focus/Sense Weakness chain.

Improved Unarmed Strike.

Unarmed strike damage is mainly based upon the size of the creature - slap a Monk's Belt on a Animal Growthed to Gargantuan Animal, and be amazed at the damage!

Plus, it's a prereq for Improved Grapple, which is also amazing as you get larger in size.

Played a combat oriented Druid- took Power Attack and kicked some booty while wildshaped. VERY effective!
