My personal preference for Druids is the Swift and Deadly Hunter variant from UA, which gains Wis to AC as a druid class feature, among other things.

Of course, they give up Wildshape, so that would defeat your purpose here! :D

I have been meaning to play that for a long time. Is it balanced? It seems a bit strong, well at least stronger then the variant in ph2, but still not as strong as pure wildshape. Do you have any other thoughts on the swift and deadly hunter variant? Most importantly, how much fun was it?

In my opinion, loosing the caster levels is not worth 2 or 1 levels of monk, even though I love the :):):):) out of evasion

I love both UA druid variants. The first one gives you barbarian abilities, this one gives you monk AND ranger specials and all without spellcaster loss.

IME both variants can even be stronger than the typical PHB druid.

I love that variant, too! Now if only I could find a DM willing to let me use the variant and Vow of Poverty. :)

You only need to be LN while you're actually a Monk. And you can start as a LG monk and then become a NG druid.

Boy, hope your DM agrees that your behavior was insufficiently lawful during first level for you to maintain your LG alignment, but insufficiently chaotic to move you all the way to CG. Just seems like a tough thing to pin your multiclassing path to ...

Depends on whether he considers alignment to be a record of past deeds, or an indication of outlook.

If the character goes from being a staunch believer in the value of structure and order, to realising that too much rigidity can be detrimental, doesn't that show a shift in attitude from Lawful to Neutral? Is behaviour as important as attitude when it comes to alignment?
