Druid tactics

Another thread prompted my interest in the Druid, I have never played one before and if I remember correctly only 1 player in all of my 20 years of gaming ever played one. I guess I always considered them a Neutral flip floppin unreliable 2nd class citizen to the 2nd edition Cleric. None of us have even read them up, well beyond a quick glancing anyway.

So my question is are they worthy to play? from a role playing piont of view? Power wise?
And what would be there tactics, thru level progression?

IMO Druid's are the most versatile and powerful class in 3.5
If their generous skill points don't cover the situation
then their wildshape can take care of it
or their spells
or their animal companion.

They can heal, they can buff, they have good battle field control spells, and they have decent damage spells.

Yep, druids arte definitely one of the most powerful & versatile classes. Tactics depend on your take on the class. Some common approaches:

Blaster druid, focused on elemental-based spells
Summoner druid, does everything with summoned animals
Shifter druid, who wildshapes & charges into melee
Animal druid, who does everything with his animal companion
Support druid, focused on buffing & healing
Urban druid, who likes to keep nature "outside"
Survival druid, who uses skills to upstage the ranger
Fruitcake druid, who spends his time mooning about trees
Avenging druid, who flips out and kills people for looking sideways at trees
Pacifist druid, who is so neutral she never takes sides
Aberrant druid, with an unnatural liking to oozes and such
