If a druids spontaneously casts Summon Nature's Ally and applies Empower Spell to it, is the casting time two full rounds?

Thanks!

Yes. From the SRD, talking about a cleric spontaneously casting a 'cure', a spell with a longer casting time (than a standard action) takes an extra full-round action to cast. So, two full rounds to spontaneously cast a 'Summon Nature's Ally'. Ouch.

Also, remember that fractions round down, so an empowered SNA either summons a single creature, 1d3*1.5 lesser critters (so 1,3 or 3), or 1d4+1 minor creatures (2,4,4,7). Empowering a d3 seems like a waste to me.

Strictly, one round, plus a full round action.

A sorcerer casting an Empowered Magic Missile uses a full round action, and the spell takes effect immediately, before anyone else acts.

A druid casting Summon Nature's Ally casts for a full round - he begins casting with a full round action in round 1, continues casting for a full initiative cycle, and the spell comes into effect just before his turn in round 2. In round 2 he acts normally.

A druid casting Empowered Summon Nature's Ally uses his full round action in round 1, and carries on casting for the full initiative cycle. In round 2, he uses his full round action to complete the casting... and the spell comes into effect at the end of that action, but before the next person acts in round 2.

Ouch! That's a lot of time. Summoners must have a really hard time, particularly enemy summoners on their own. Oh, and Rodrigo, shouldn't those numbers read d3 (1,3,4) and 1d4+1 (2,4,5,7)? :)

I'll remember to surround my summoners with lots of mooks then!

Thanks!

For d3 you are correct (1,3,4)
(Average 2 and 2/3...)

For 1d4+1 (3,4,6,7)
I believe.

Is the +1 part of the empower? Since it's a constant, it shouldn't be empowered as well, should it? I know there was an magic missile example somewhere, but I can't find it in the FAQ.

It's in the PHB, in the feat description.

Roll 1d4+1, and multiply the result by 1.5, for each missile.
