Druids in Space?

A name, eh? If the setting is centered on some version of Earth, you open up references to RW cultures. If not...

You know that theory that life on earth came from an asteroid? And Asteroids could be spreading life across the universe?
That could be the role of a Space Druid, sowing life throughout.

Or, like many others suggested, is thinking of them the same way as druids in a desert or dwarven druids in caves. Apparently there's no life there, but it is just a different ecosystem, and the presence of life is not that important. Space druids are concerned with a whole solar system or galaxy, and all the interactions between astral bodies, and the maintaining of them.

The thing is, they kinda have to be immortal for a scope like that. At our scale, things happen very fast in earth, but extremely slowly in space...
So they're like the Maiar in LotR.

I probably should come clean: I'm one of a few 3rd Party Publishers working on their respective version of what is to become a space-opera Pathfinder. I have some ideas and ideals that I wish to pursue and one of key aspects of this project to generate some suitable space-opera alternatives to the existing base classes in both the PF Core Rulebook and the Advanced Player's Guide.

It was coming along nicely, but I had hit a snag when I got to Druid, so I started this thread for ideas and went on with the others. I think that this thread has convinced me that a Druid-type character concept is possible for the setting. Most importantly, it seems to be unusual and interesting enough that people might actually want to play one.

Feel free to continue to contribute to this thread, the more concepts I can garner, the better definition the resultant class will become

I'd go with something "Life"-related for a name. "Life Keepers" or "Life Guardians." "Wardens of the Life Force," though that's kind of unwieldy.

You could also do something with "Bio-" although that's starting to sound pretty techy.

Druids in SPAAAACE are divided into two groups.

Druids: They worship life, they promote and preserved life in almost all of its forms (except aberrations) throughout the galaxy. The galaxy is really a barren place, what little life there is needs to be protected and even encouraged to grow.

Dark Druids: They worship the Void, the darkness between the stars. Life is scarce throughout the galaxy for a reason. Death is the inevitable fate of life.
Some of these druids might revere the Old Gods, who will emerge from the Void and devour all life!

Dan Simmons' Hyperion Cantos has a druidic-like order. Cut from wikipedia:

"Het Masteen is the most mysterious of all seven pilgrims. He is a Templar—a nature priest of sorts—who captains the Treeship Yggdrasil that brings the pilgrims to Hyperion.

Treeships are living trees that are propelled by ergs (an alien being that emits force fields) through space. The ergs also generate the containment fields (force fields) around the tree that keep its atmosphere intact. There are only four treeships in existence including the Yggdrasil."

I don't remember if they were detailed more than this.
