Druid's Trackless Step

Monte clarified the way he rules this ability (and no, *sigh*, it doesn't mean I accept all Monte Cook has written since 1934), and since it's from a writer, it's the most credible interpretation (or option if you prefer) I got so far, IMHO.
Doesn't MOnte flag his rule as a house rule for his Iron Heroes campaign? If so, that hardly makes it a 'credible interpretation', but simply an interesting house rule - nothing more, nothing less.

Like I noted - it's in the same House Rule document as his "No Animal Companions" rule, and his "Feral Pool" mechanic.

It's not a document of interpretations; it's a document detailing changes to the rules.

It's not evidence of how Trackless Step works; it's evidence of how Trackless Step doesn't work, since otherwise it wouldn't need to be detailed in a document of changes to the rules...

*yawn*

Like I said, it's not because I accept his house rule of Trackless Step as a credible interpretation (since I got nothing else more official) that I do not realize it's a house rule, and it doesn't mean either that I accept all what's written on the same page.

Now you can nitpick what you want, I'm off this thread.

Thanks everybody for your input.

OK, one person in our group found this useful thing: Monte Cook ruled this ability doesn't cover scent before level 11th.

Trackless Step (Ex): Starting at 3rd level, a druid leaves no trail in natural surroundings and cannot be tracked. She may choose to leave a trail if so desired. The druid still leaves a scent trail, so those who are capable of tracking by scent may continue to do so. At 11th level the druid effectively has no scent trail while in natural environments; her body is fully in tune with her surroundings. This makes it impossible to track, locate, or detect the druid via the Scent ability while in a natural setting. ( Monte Cook Wiki: http://ironheroeshouserules.pbwiki.....php?wiki=DRUID )

---

Also I thought that the Trackless Step ability is EX, and not a SU or a SP ability. So he can't remove his scent just by being extraordinary knowledgeable in a forest.

Case closed for me :) Thank you all for your input.

The monk was trained to fall next to a wall, all the barbarian's abities comes from training, and the druid is trained to Trackless Step in the wilds.

Removing scent for Trackless Step would be magical for me, and couldn't come from class training. That would make the ability SP or SU.

How are you going to explain that at level 11, not only is the druid not going to leave a scent trail anymore, but is not going to be able to be detected or located by scent at all? If it's not magical, why couldn't he do it at level 3 when he learned how to mask his trail from everything but scent?
