Druids Turning Animals

Hey gang...I had a crazy idea this afternoon.

Has anyone ever thought of allowing a Druid to turn or rebuke Animals in the same manner as Clerics turn or rebuke undead?

Whether or not a Druid turns or rebukes an animal would depend on her alignment, as per the Cleric, but "Destroy" results are treated as though the Druid had cast animal friendship on the animal.

I wouldnt add this as a class ability, but rather a class-specific feat that can only be attained by druids of a certain level...maybe 3rd or higher.

What do you think?

Sounds fine to me.

You could also create an Alt Druid with this ability in place of some of the other abilities. Might be interesting to see how useful turning animals would be.

Just make sure to note what exactly counts as an animal... whether only Animals are affected, or whether Vermin are affected too, or Beasts. It depends on what you mean by "animals".

Only creatures of monster type "animal" would be affected. Vermin, being giant insects, wouldnt be included because they are unnatural. Beasts wouldnt be included either for the same reason. Dire animals, since they are of the Animal type, would be included.

And the fact that the usefullness of Turning Animals is somewhat limited helps with any balance issues that may arise.

hmmm... That ability would make the animal empathy skill totally redundant.

I suggest, rather than turning animals, that a druid would turn abberations instead. They are perversions of nature, just like undead are perversions of life...

Vermin unnatural???!??!?!

Normal sized Spider, scorpians, swasps and such are vermins. Might want to rephrase that case something tells me such creatures ARE natural (at least at their normal sized)

And your also try to justify not allowing them to be turned because they are 'giant size' but would allow turning dire animals which are upsized normal animals. Sounds kind of counterdictory to me to be honest.
