Druids, why don't they have find familiar

cousin_avi

First Post
Currently I am playing a barbarian druid (and before people say you can't do that because of alignment, my group dropped the true neutral, its a dumb concept), anyway I would think that a druid would have the find familiar spell. Yes they do have animal companion but still that is pretty weak in comparison. Considering the whole mentality, ethos and religious beliefs, it seems to me that the find familar and animal companion should both be available to the druid class. I also realize that the basis of the FF spell is historically based on stories of witches and worlocks having animal pets, (ala black cats, toads and such) but I would like to hear your thoughts on this topic

Thanks

Well, first of all, barbarian druids work by the rules, I think. Druids can be any alignment. Something about "nature includes all types." And TN isn't stupid.

Now for your question...

First of all, Find Familiar doesn't exist as a spell in 3e. Ha! Nobody gets it! :p

Second of all, Druids get something better than a familiar: Animal Friendship, which is a spell, and gives you lots of friendly combat machines at low levels. :)

Druids must be true neutral? Find Familiar spell? Animal Companions? I think you are stuck in 2E mode...this would be a 3E message board :)

Actually druids must have neutral as part of their alignment but this makes neutral evil, chaotic neutral, neutral, lawful neutral and neutral good. Still a nice variety and you can still pull off your barbarian druid.

Animal Friendship does rock tho...

well I can see that my post will be full of really anal responses so I'll try to break it down to a more simple inqury.
I said FF to simplify it- if you want a more technical wording, see the animal LIKE familiar that wizads and sorcerors get. Such as the vision of the hawk, the con of the toad etc.... I would think that this ability would be more associated with the character most linked with nature.

And thanks for a second, I thought this was a 2ed page but your great insight allowed me to see the light

it never fails to amuse me when i see someone being antagonistic to the very people they're soliciting help from. kudos to you, cousin :p LOL

See if you can browbeat your DM into letting your animal companion gain XP and advance in levels.
