Druid's wildshape

According to the rules, if a druid is wearing an item in his normal form, the item merges with his animal form when he wildshapes if the animal form is not capable of using said item. What about the reverse situation? What if the druid selects an item that is only wearable in his animal form (Ex - horseshoes). Do those then merge into his humanoid form when he isn't in animal form?

From the SRD description of Wild Shape:

Any gear worn or carried by the druid melds into the new form and becomes nonfunctional. When the druid reverts to her true form, any objects previously melded into the new form reappear in the same location on her body that they previously occupied and are once again functional. Any new items worn in the assumed form fall off and land at the druid's feet.
