Dune: The Butlerian Jihad and a short story

The new ones aren't bad sci-fi, but they aren't Dune.

They read like a history textbook compared to mythology.

I hate KJA. I love DUNE. Those two warred in my brain until I decided to try one just to reaffirm why I swore to never read another SW novel by him (or many other SW writers). I even went to the library so I would not waste my money.

I like em. They are not cannon but they do a reasonably good job and far exceeded my expectations.

To the guys that haven't finished the old series:
I don't really recommend books 5 or 6, but I really liked 4. You should definitely try to read that far, just to know how the children turn out.

I fully intend to, it's just taking a while (in fact it took me years to read the second and third books). My father has mentioned htat one of the later books is rather poor, I just never remember which one.

i think all the later books are poor compared to dune. if dune is 10 then dune messiah is 7, children of dune and the rest 4

I liked the last two as well. Of course, the first one is best.
