DUNE - The RPG?

I remember from the rumours at the time that it was getting quite a long way towards completion at the time the license was revoked.

And contrary to Buzz' opinion, I think that the universe of the original Dune novel would be a brilliant one to game in - the politicking of the great houses, the machinations of the Bene Gesserit, the shield technology that made personal combat training with melee weapons so important.

I would have imagined the key character classes to include Bene Gesserit, Mentats, Nobles and Tleilaxu, along with swordmasters, soldiers, fremen and so forth.

Personally I would have found this more interesting than Star Wars, Star Trek or pretty much any other sci-fi spinoff that I could name.

Ah well.

Which, when you figure out the LUG system, is actualy more or less what you have.

I think you'll find that the hassle of the license was one of the things which contributed to LUG not getting the game out in the first place.

The number of delays that game had was unbelievable. That WotC were kind enough to release the game at all was incredible.

I've a lot of bad feelings towards LUG and its designers/marketing team. They've produced several games (Aria, Dune CCG, Dune RPG, Buffy CCG) where the basic ideas have been excellent, but the execution has been... lacking.

Cheers!
