Dungeon #138

That's been out of print for how many years now? Is the monster reprinted in Dungeon at least?
Always. Dungeon always contains stats for anything drawn from a non-core source.

If there are exceptions (and I'm not aware of any) it's when they offer an alternative, or when they put out a branded tie-in. For example, if they were to advertise a psionics adventure, I doubt they'd reprint the applicable psionics rules (but they might give options for using it without psionics). Again, I'm not aware of any exceptions to date.

Indeed. The stats for creatures like chitines or ekolids, which appear for the adventure, are given in the magazine. Dungeon always publishes the full stat blocks of such creatures so they can be used as-is.

still waiting for my copy.

got all my copies of previous Dungeons on time since i became an ENnies judge....

hmmm... now that my part as a judge is over does that mean it is back to late delivery???

My copy is late as well. That makes me sad, I wanna see the new AP preview. I -really- want the Sessarine material from the next issue to use in the SCAP.

That may be so, but I'm not dropping $29 for a single monster. ;)

Hopefully the adventure works just fine with ettercaps instead.

Others have addressed the stats for chitines being in the mag, but I will add that if you enjoy running/playing adventures in the underdark then you're doing yourself a disservice by not reading the book. I'd guesstimate that around half (possibly up to 2/3 or more) of the content is generic and not FR specific.
Off the top of my head:
  • Full rules for chitines, duergar, grimlocks and kuo-toa as playable races (along with a few of the old favoutires like drow, and a couple of possibly FR specific races). Abbreviated rules for some higher level monsters such as illithids, minotaurs, derro, troglodytes.
  • About 50 pages of - mostly generic - feats, PrCs, spells, equipment & magic items. All pretty flavourful and useful stuff.
  • About 20 pages of monsters - only one of which is FR specific. Some real classics like elder brain, annihilator (think rust monster, but instead of rusting grasp, disintegrate), giant cockraoch, giant maggot, kuo-toa leviathan.
  • About another 20 pages on generic underdark geography, spelunking, etc. Really good stuff and (IMO) worth the price of the book alone.
It's one of my favourite FR books. Anyway, I'll stop the thread-jacking now.
:)

Apparently the inside back cover has a photo of the new Dwarven Forge set due for release in August. Can anyone who has the mag describe the new stuff (or, better still, post a picture/scan somewhere)?

I am buying it just for this:

The Mud Sorcerer's Tomb, by Mike Shel, updated by the DUNGEON staff - The original adventure from Dungeon #37 returns, updated to 3.5, for 14th-level characters! When a tomb of one of the legendary Mud Sorcerers is uncovered, are the PCs brave enough to enter it? This tricky dungeon is filled with riddles, traps, and monsters that will confound, confuse, and kill many an unwary PC! Information is given on Knowledge (arcana, history, and religion) checks about the Mud Sorcerers. New monsters are presented over the course of the adventure, including the mud grue, Yurushyu's automaton, Majalor, and Tzolo's guardian. Sidebars cover mud rings, robe of warding, and mudships.

:D
