Dungeon 156: Last Breaths of Ashenport - Treasure?

Has anyone else had any experience with this adventure published in Dungeon magazine? I am planning to run it for my group, but I noticed that there is next to no treasure throughout. A 3rd level magic item (for an 8th level adventure?) and like 500 gp worth of various items is all I found.

Any idea what is up with that? What did you do to rectify it, just sprinkle some treasure throughout?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I ran this adventure at a Con recently, with pre-gens, so the treasure didnt bother me. My advice is to just stick in the treasure you think appropriate.

I think you are supposed to use the parcel system as described in the 4e DMG.

Well, since I had to advance all monsters & enemies to run the adventure for a group of level 12 chars, most of the missing treasure went into npc gear. Only the aboleth got some treasure that wasn't used by anyone.

I ran this game as a one-shot in 3e, and I did notice some treasure discrepancies, yeah. I generally buff up the NPCs a bit anyway, so I gave them more scrolls and potions (which the PCs could loot if they were fast), and the high priest an aberration orb from MIC (...mostly so I could use the sweet new otyugh mini I got for Christmas, truth be told).

Just plug in the parcels for the PCs where ever it seems appropriate.

I would like to see adventurer designers just drop treasure, unless tied specifically to story, from the design altogether, or just include notes on appropriate locations for parcels rather than leaving in stuff I'd just have to season to taste anyway.

My impression was that this is supposed to have more of a Cthulu-like vibe than a standard fantasy D&D feel. With that consideration, surviving is as much of a "treasure" as actual treasure is. However, if you wanted some good ideas for treasure, perhaps use the 4E DMG "parcel" that was mentioned before (I don't play 4E so I can't really say anything about that), or try and get the authors (Ari Marmell) attention here on ENWorld and ask him for ideas. He's known as Mouseferatu. Just click on the link and message him from his profile. (He seems like a pretty cool guy and would probably reply to you.)
