Dungeon Board Game - October 2012

I have two editions of this game which was my first foray into D&D. Each one added something like the Illusionist and dwarf. It would be neat if they add some alternative missions like Castle Ravenloft.

Oh, HELL YES. I have so many fond memories of this game... especially because it's a game you can play with non-gamers. I remember my dad and I (both gamers, me since I was six years old) playing it on board game night with the rest of the family, including my non-gaming-at-all mother (Clue is more her speed of game) and my sister.

The game is brilliant, though I found myself always playing the dwarf whenever I got a chance, because, well, his helmet had horns. And what's not to love about THAT!? My family would always get mad because I played the game the same way every time - head south on my own, and clear out the level 4 dungeons right off the bat, because the level 4 treasure cards gave you the best chance of landing a +1 sword and were the first place you had a chance for a +2 sword.

My kids play the HELL out of my 1981 edition of the game, and it's starting to show its age. A new printing - assuming it has roughly the same rules - would be a big hit with my family.

The creator of Dungeon! talks about it's creation and a bit about Dave Arneson and his games in this vid. I didn't know that Dungeon! was invented in part to give Dave Arneson a chance to play vs DM. It starts at about minute 24, but the whole thing was interesting to me.
