Tome of Adventure Vol. 4 is a level 4 hex exploration-style adventure spanning scores of leagues. On the Purple Planet,

I was super excited about this and backed the Kickstarter. But..........I also didn't read the description just plugged in my CC.

I was expecting the hard cover to have some editing to help combine the adventures and content. But it's really just reprints so the adventure are disjointed and less a hex crawl and more and adventure compilation.

Again my fault for not reading, but I was expecting more editing and integration of the world info into one big section but it's not it spread over multiple sections and very disjointed.

If you don't own any Purple Planet it's a cool read. But in my mind this was going to be so much better.

Wow there's a lot of new Goodman Games stuff, huh? Awesome. I'm not too familiar with their modern 5e content- how's their design? say, monsters from their 5e adventures... Anyone familiar?

I noticed in the original Tome of Adventure that some of the text will refer to page numbers from the original publication. So it'll say something like "see ITEM on page 33," but the adventure started on page 64 and the item is actually on page 71. Same lack of editing, or editing misses.

Good details on the editing for these Tomes. That is unfortunate that the books haven't been more edited to be a solid finalized version with at least the page numbers updated. Thanks for the FYIs, as I haven't bought these books so wouldn't know these details.

It is good, but as other posters noted buyer beware on some editing challenges. Plenty of third party support as well.

I have some 5E Goodman Games stuff but it is about ten years old. Don't have the new stuff.

The adventures themselves are great- very tight, easily useable for any drop-in. I use DCC adventures for my DnD games often enough for side stuff etc... so the content is absolutely there, but yeah the editing could use touching up here and there.

Glad to hear it. I've always liked GG adventures. Of course, Goodman Games is not the first RPG company to have editing glitches!

The quality of their 5e stuff varies. None of it is bad, but generally it doesn't rise above the level of pretty good either. I haven't yet read a 5e adventure from Goodman that was truly great in the way that Harley Stroh's best stuff is great. I mostly like them because they're short -- they're the length of old modules, which is useful and a refreshing change.

For better or worse, their 5e stuff fits the tone and themes of 5e, so if you're looking for DCC-style wackiness, you won't find a ton. The adventures are less vanilla than WotC's stuff, but not enormously so. I personally wish their 5e modules were more gonzo but I respect them for writing to the edition.

I’m interested in the DCC Purple Planet stuff. Unfortunately I’m a KS backer in Canada, so I’m still waiting for my own order to be fulfilled a year later even as I’m hearing about these items becoming available in retail anyway. Makes me wonder why I bothered backing the kickstarter…
