[Dungeon] Contents for Issue 102 (Sept. 03)

Old Fezziwig

this is a low-flying panic attack
I've just received Dungeon 101 and here are the contents listed for issue 102:

Zenith Trajectory by David Noonan (Adventure Path, Pt. 3)
The PCs' actions in Cauldron have caught the attention of more powerful residents of the city, and they are invited to embark on a quest to bring back one of Cauldron's lost heroes. A perilous journey through the Underdark awaits, and at its end, a deadly puzzle sure to keep the PCs on their toes. Can they return the missing Cauldronite to his home? More importantly, can they survive to return themselves? (Designed for 6th-level PCs)

Cry Wolf by Nicolas Logue
An uncannily intelligent wolf has been terrorizing the residents of Rendrick, and a bounty has been placed on the creature. The PCs must discover the truth behind its odd motives and act quickly to ensure innocent lives aren't lost. (Designed for 2nd-level PCs)

On the Polyhedron side, next month will include more stuff for this month's d20 Modern minigame, Iron Lords of Jupiter. I've not had much of a chance to look through this month's issue, but I do think that the minigame looks pretty neat.

Best,
tKL

Edit: Clarified subject line.

Wow, this issue's D&D adventures sound awful (two whole adventures, oh boy! *sarcasm*), although I must confess a secret guilty pleasure for Flash Gordon-esque pulp fiction and wouldn't mind seeing it done up for d20; however, I doubt it will ever see any use in my games, meaning I may flip through it on the stand, but there's about a 1% chance I'd actually buy it, especially with the rest of the issue's D&D contents sounding so downright uninteresting.

Player/Monster Matrix

I heartily approve of the Monster and Player Matrices. I probably will not use them, but I do like the effort they represent - an attempt to give gamers something they can use at the table.

So is this mini-game (IloJ) supposed to be a Flash Gordon-esque type thing?

Paging Mr. Mona.....Paging Mr. Mona

From the intro, it's meant to be in the "'planetary romance' tradition of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Jack Vance, and Lin Carter." I haven't read any of them yet (bad Lion), so I can't say much more about it. As for the relation to Flash Gordon, I'm no help there either. :o

That's next month's issue (September). This month's (August's) issue's has Prison of the Firebringer (high-level FR) and The Chasm Bridge (revamp of the adventure from Dragon 131 using 3e rules; I think this is the bonus adventure for subscribers, but I could be wrong). The mini-game looks good to me so far.

I agree. This was a nice touch, even if I did have a nasty time getting it out without ripping up my magazine. I think that has to do with the mailman wedging the magazine in my (very small) mailbox, though. :)

Any word on whether the Living Greyhawk Journal will return to the pages of Polyhedron next issue?

Angus: I would assume so, as that's how things usually are, but the only explicit information I saw was what I reported (it's a little blurb at the end of the mini-game—the next issue sidebar only includes the two listed adventures).

As a side note, there's an article by Monte Cook on Arcana Unearthed in the Poly side as well this month. It seems like it was half-cribbed from his website and Design Diary, as it's got a lot of information I've seen there already, but I could be wrong about that.

While I've been following the progress of Arcana Unearthed and looking forward to it, this article moved it from must buy to must buy immediately for me. While there might not have been a lot of new information in the article, the presentation whetted my appetite.

I did notice that Monte spent a lot of time in the article pointing out that he didn't do this because he disliked the D&D system. It did it because he wanted to show what could be done.
