[Dungeon] Discussion of Issues #1-99 (REVIEWs)

DUNGEON #99 will feature the adventure "Quadripartite." It's a long, four-part adventure that really runs like four separate adventures. In fact, we provide some tips on breaking the module up so it's pieces can be run independently. We also have a "Critical Threat" or two and a new Chris West "Map of Mystery."

The subscriber bonus section features an adventure called "Fish Story."

Alright folks, Dungeon #98 is out. It's a thinner magazine, but it appears that the quality is still damn good overall, especially when compared to other mags of it's type.

The cover art is somewhat interesting. I give that ** of 4 stars.

There's a neat-o new feature on the title page of each that's a mixed blessing. It say's "HIGH" level or "Medium level" or "For Low Level." The 'adapting the adventure' sidebars have been trimmed up then too. It saves space, but makes each adventure a little bit less useful (without work of course). I'd call it more of a benefit though. The old, 'for levels 1-3,' isn't as useful as the new system of course because this way adventures are listed for more levels. It gives a better 'illusion' that the adventures are more adaptable.

OK, onto the adventures:

1. Scenario & Author:
GLUTTONY, by B. Schell. 4th level side trek.

2. Overall Rating (1-5 stars: 1*=Awful, 3*** = avg, 5*****=best scenario ever)****

3. Did you play it yet? No

4. Comments/SPOILERS: THis is pretty deep for a side trek with a nice background of creature, plus it's easily placeable in a campaign (farmland).

5. Known Errata: not yet.

++++++++

1. Scenario & Author: Wings, Spikes, and Teeth by B. Marsden SIDE TREK

2. Overall Rating (1-5 stars: 1*=Awful, 3*** = avg, 5*****=best scenario ever) ****

3. Did you play it yet? No

4. Comments/SPOILERS: The adventure is easily placeable in any campaign. The Lions and Manticore make for a nasty surprise. The twist of the lion king not liking being subservient is interesting and may be someting that a DM could exploit earlier in the game (e.g. the pc's talk to a druid who says what's going on ).

5. Known Errata: n/a

++++++++++

1. Scenario & Author: Flood Season by J. Jacobs

2. Overall Rating (1-5 stars: 1*=Awful, 3*** = avg, 5*****=best scenario ever) ***1/2

3. Did you play it yet? No

4. Comments/SPOILERS:
This adventure is the second one of a series of something called "Adventure Path," but is supposedly standalone. We don't know what 'Adventure Path' is because it doesn't say. The scenario is set in "Cauldron" the city in the Volcano from the last Dungeon. The adventure surrounds prevention of flooding in the city. The flow of the adventure is good, but it suffers from the "different race must equal a different NPC personality syndrome" and the crutch of the religious organization politics cliches. Yes, authors, that means that we're tired of hearing about mad cultists and seeing every race presented as excuses for simply making a deeper character. For those two reasons, I rank this otherwise excellent adventure down. One little tidbit..there's a character named "SKAVEN" in there. That will brighten your wargamer players' day.

5. Known Errata: There is a WEB ENHANCEMENT at: www.paizo.com/dungeon for 'Life's Bazaar'
