Dungeon/Dragon Writer's Guidelines

The guidelines for writing for Dungeon Magazine and Dragon Magazine are out (maybe I just couldn't find them before). I think the Dragon guidelines are right on the head when it comes to submissions for prestige classes and I agree with what they have to say. The Dungeon guidelines also appear to have complete 3.5E stat blocks, but they are PDF, so you have to rewrite them (one thing that would be nice to have .doc for).

Anybody have any other tips for submissions or think they missed any major points?

Hello,

Near as I can tell, those guidelines are the same now as they have been for ages. I downloaded them from the Paizo site roughly eight months ago (might even have been longer than that).

I also don't think they have been updated for 3.5 yet either. I just checked the Dungeon guidelines and it lists the "official" abbreviations to be used for classes in submitted modules. It does not list all of the new Prestige Classes in the 3.5 DMG, just the original 4 from the 3.0 DMG.

On a personal note, I prefer the PDF format, easier to read and print in my opinion.

Cheers :)

I do have a gripe about the writers guidlines, they say that they will not accept any adventures based on real life religion, ect. But in issue #86, they published and adventure called "Mysterious Ways". It was set on earth at the time of the Crusades. There was magic, and the true Cross was a artifact in the adventure as well.
I don't have a problem with this type of stuff in dungeon magazine. I have a problem with WOTC being hypocritical. First they say they don't accept that kind of adventure, then they publish one.

Yea, I've seen other things like that. For example, the Robin Hood adventure (that I really liked) had some stuff like that.

I guess if your adventure is good enough, you can break the rules.

We haven't had a chance to update our writer's guidelines, yet. It's on the giant to-do list (but it has lots of other more fun stuff atop it). Should become a priority after we push #105 out the door.

It'll be a long, long time before I print an adventure set in the real world, as much as I might personally find that interesting. Most of our adventures are designed to fit as seamlessly as possible in the widest variety of fantasy campaigns.

Erik,

Thanks for the update on the writer's guidelines. Do you happen to know if both the Dragon and Dungeon guidelines will be made PDF this time around?

Cheers :)
