Dungeon Mag-ECL-werebear

Pierson Lowgal

First Post
I'm told that Dungeon Magazine had a list of ECL's (equivalent character levels) for the Monsters in the Monster Manual. What was the ECL 'bonus' for werebears?

Also, if anyone stats werecreature PC's or NPC's differently than the Monster Manual describes, I would be interested in your changes.

Welcome to the Boards!!

In Dragon 293 there is a list of most of the creatures in the MM and it has ecls for them. However, the lycanthropes are not among them.

Soldarin's ECL lists the werebear at +4. The Dragon Mag article doesn't even list lycanthopes at all.

EDIT: Oh yeah! I didn't even notice your post count. Welcome to the boards!

The DMG lists them as +4. ;)

Yup. However, a similar list was reprinted in the FRCS, and the Ogre, among many others, has been officially errated to have an ECL of +8. Unfortunately, the werebear isn't listed in the FRCS. The werewolf is though, and its ECL wasn't errated, so the werebear level adjustment in the DMG may be correct.

What the heck does THAT mean?

are you saying that they've reprinted that Dragon article in the FRCS?
If so, I don't remember hearing about it.

Has anyone posted this new information about exactly what has been "officially errated", and what is just fantasy-land estimates, like it was in the Dragon article?

It means exactly what I said: Some of the creatures on the list in the DMG were reprinted in the FRCS, and some of the list in the FRCS was errated. The ogre in the FRCS errata matches the ECL in the Dragon article (+8).

No.

That's because they didn't. :)
