Dungeon Magazine: New Format, New Subscription Price

Really? I thought this thread was overwhelmingly positive...
I assume you're being sarcastic. Between the people bitching about Polyhedron and Downer and a ton of other things that have already been discussed and finalized months ago, and the other people whining about the five bucks they're out, and the people claiming that Paizo's customer service is worse than AT&T's during the monopoly days -- well, I kind of lost track of the positive stuff.

It's looked mostly positive to me, although not overwhelmingly so. If I were Erik, I'd be pleased as punch by the reception of the new format, while taking the criticisms under advisement.

Certainly I'd not let the honest feedback prevent me from making similar posts in the future. A business needs to hear from both its fans and its critics, IMO.

Criticism can be positive, you know, especially if it helps make something you like that much better.

And I'm not whining. I'm not!

I wasn't. :( (I guess I'm used to seeing it much worse, so this seemed pretty postive to me. A couple people noting that they didn't really care for Downer while everything else was great doesn't seem like "bitching" to me, either.) *shrug*

I do agree that the complaining over $5 was a little disconcerting, though. I guess they don't have a firm grip on business realities, considering that it's not often one gets discounts in retail if an item goes on sale the next week... (and the fact that it's $5).

Well, now I kinda feel the fool for letting the cute girl at the Paizo booth at Origins talk me into subscribing there at the con. Granted, I like my bright red Warduke t-shirt, but now it's not so much a free giveaway as it is a discounted item.

Geek solidarity! I love my shirt!! :D

Seriously, $5 is a really good price for a t-shirt. Think of it that way.

Or think of it as $5 for the opportunity to talk to someone who is both on Paizo's staff and really cute. :)

(I got to talk to Erik for a while, too. But I hope he'll forgive me for saying that I don't find him quite as cute. ;))

Actually, that's not true. Most retail stores offer a 30 day price guarantee. The only time the don't have to is if it's a unique or "as is" item. And even if they don't have to, it's generally a good practice to ensure customer loyalty. Any retailer will tell you that if you give a little when a customer asks for a little, you'll usually end up getting a lot back.

Yes, $5 isn't going to break anyone's bank (and if it does, they should find a cheaper hobby.). But the point is that, as a consumer, it cost me more to get the same product that someone else who waited a few days more got for less. I did not get any significant advantage over having that product (in this case, a subscription) earlier than they did.

So while I'm not going to do more than grumble (some would say whine) about it on a message board, I still feel a little bit cheated.

I wish we Europeans could subscribe for less than (almost) twice the US price.
I wonder... perhaps it would be cheaper to centralize European subscriptions? Instead of sending the issues from Paizo HQ (or more likely, the printer) directly to each subscriber, send a whole bunch of them to somewhere in Europe and then have them sent individually from there. Perhaps one location in each country.

I don't know if it would be cheaper, but I think it's worth looking into.

Really? I'm not aware that "most" do. Generally, I'm aware of only larger stores with big ticket items, such as electronics and furniture stores, having such a policy and even then not all of them do, since it's considered a 'competitive advantage'. (I'm quite sure "the Gap" doesn't have such a thing, for example. Maybe it does?) So, I don't agree. (Though I could be proven wrong.)

Chalk up another response in the positive column. I like the new changes.

I also like my great "True to the Game" Warduke t-shirt that I picked up at Origins, but I'm wondering how I missed the cute girl in the booth. Not that it was bad talking to Erik or anything, but still... ;)
