[Dungeon] Top 30 Greatest Adventures Discussion (Spoilers)

First, Forge of Fury has no business being on this list.

Next, I'd personally put Destiny of Kings on there somewhere, but as has been mentioned in other similar threads, not many people seem to be familiar with it, and widespread recognition is certainly a factor in these kinds of polls. A great adventure with a smaller audience (or fan-base) will always be trumped by a good one with a larger audience (or fan-base)...just like the All-Star voting in baseball.

Finally, I think it's pretty hard, and pointless to put any kind of order on these things. Rather than listing them 1 thru 30, just say these are 30 of the best ever don't bother trying to order them. Doing so just seems to incite more arguments.

Disagree!

I really don´t understand your list. It seems to be built quite heavily on nostalgia. For how can "Tomb of Horrors" be better than "Return to the Tomb of Horrors"? I mean, really!? This also goes for the other "Return to..." adventures. Do you really mean that the newer versions are worse than the oldies? And how can you leave out great adventures like the epic "Dragonmountain" that so many players loved. I also miss "Axe of the Dwarvish Lords" and "Night Below". "Rod of Seven Parts" should be there as should "Die Vecna Die". How can anyone list "The Forge of Fury" as one of the best ever? Have you really played it? It is simple, boring and has no feeling what-so-ever! In Sweden a lot of players are VERY critical to this list. Somebody started a thread on a Swedish D&D forum about this list and criticism is HEAVY. You should really motivate your choices and explain the criterias for making the list. Please, leave nostalgia out of it! Fredrik Bermar, Stockholm, Sweden.

Actually, I have Destiny of Kings and we will play it next in our D&D Forgotten Realms campaign. I second your opinion regarding "Destiny of Kings". It´s a superb adventure! A great intrigue, colorful NPCs - not the least Mendal Secord the Assassin! and the twists and turns challenges PCs.

Please place your favorite modules in the list above with 1 being your favorite.

I put my list together here:

http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=298585

when I heard that they were putting together the top 30.

B1 In Search of the Unknown
B2 Keep on the Borderlands
B4 The Lost City
B5 Horror on the Hill
B7 Rahasia
B10 Night's Dark Terror
X1 Isle of Dread
X2 Castle Amber
X4 Master of the Desert Nomads
X5 Temple of Death
C1 Lost Shrine of Tomoachan
D1, 2, 3 Drow series
G1, 2, 3 Giant series
I1 Dwellers of the Forbidden City
I 3, 4, 5 Desert of Desolation series
I6 Ravenloft (which I can't stand, but it should be here for historical reasons)
S1 Tomb of Horror
S3 Expedition to Barrier Peaks
S4/WG4 Tsojcanth/Tharizdun
T1/T1-4 Hommlet/Temple of Elemental Evil
Paul Jaquay's two Judges Guild adventures - Caverns of Thracia and Dark Tower

I seperated the super-modules. Twenty-three of my 30 are represented on the Dungeon list in one form or another.

the whole list is opinion. the one in the magazine is the opinion of those who picked it.

the lists on this thread and multiple other message boards are opinions too.

it is based on personal preference.

Does the article not include our individual lists? We were each asked to pick our top 10 and then write a bit about why we made our choices. I thought those were going to appear as sidebars to the article or something. Is that not the case?

And for the record, I did not vote for Forge of Fury. Or Tomb of Horrors for that matter.

Would you list your list?

I'm curious to see it. :)

Chris,

We didn't publish individual lists, but included selected comments from the panel when appropriate. If individual contributors want to post their own lists, that's fine by me.

PS: Obviously, everyone's lists (even in Sweden) are going to be different. That was half the fun of this article.
