Dungeons and Dragons artist dies

DCS was able to capture the essence of D&D much more adeptly than the more technically proficient artists who followed him. His work is evocative, spontaneous, and charming, which is 180 degrees away from much of what I see these days. He was a player's artist, someone you could imagine doodling on the back of his character sheet between turns. I think almost every old-school gaming group had someone like him -- the guy who would draw your character portrait or commemorate a big battle with a sketch of the key moment in the action.

He's right up there with Trampier and Otus as the artists who defined the game for me.
